Introduction

This micro metric handheld sampling and biopsy device measures 15 cm long and 1.5 cm in diameter.  The front of the housing holds a one hundred micro liter capacity 8 micro syringe.  The interchangeable Teflon support can hold a large variety of different-sized Molybedmium/Titanium/Wolfram mix steel samplers which are similar to acupuncture needles in size, but also have a micro-canula within. This micro syringe eliminates the necessity of invasive surgery in opening up the skull. (see left illustration)  In the centre x ray photo, the  strength of this micro syringe is demonstrated as it is directed  by the surgeon toward the tumor behind the eye with only a pair of surgical pliers. The versatility of this instrument allows fluid injections as well as aspiration of samples for analysis.

Micro Sampler

The built-in Spring-forced piston is adjustable to a thousandth of a millimeter.  When the piston is released by a trigger, according to the adjusted value, the sample will enter into the capillary tube.  If any other liquid or fluid is preferred, then it will be taken up within a 100 micro liter syringe.  For Biopsy or Sampling procedures, in order to achieve different sizes or volumes, the size of the syringe capacity is adjustable.

With the aid of x-ray, ultra sound or other information,  the experimenting Neurosurgeon will be able to position this special device to take a micro biopsy from critical parts of an Aids virus-infected brain tumor,  or any other part of the body,  for analysis or research.

Development Of A New Vacuum Rotary Dissector for Microsurgery

Assembly of A New Vacuum Rotary
Dissector

This rotary dissector surgical instrument is based on old, familiar technology.  Because of the importance of this instrument,  new updated versions are necessarily developed. This particular evolution of the handheld type is easy to maneuver and can reach critical places in surgery such   as penetrating cerebral bone and tissue in the removal of Aids virus-infected tumors .

The dissector apparatus is 16 cm long by 0.5 cm wide and includes a built-in reversible vacuum  system with foot lever speed control up to a maximum of 10,000 rpm.

The Significant Advantages with Reversible Vacuum Ability are:

Creates pressure easily Supplies cold water to cool the titanium high-speed drill through the inside channel, which continues to the tip of the drill

 Results:

Bone matter being drilled will not become damaged by high temperatures generated by the drilling procedure.

 Other Outstanding Features:

The sampler can easily be snapped onto other specialized instruments such as milling, grinding, cutting and edging tools for use in bone and other surgeries.

 Conclusion:

One distinct advantage of this sampler is having the ability to penetrate the skull to both biopsy and treat tumors without the use of  invasive surgical equipment.  An example is that in conjunction with physicians pliers, the syringe can be pushed through bone without drilling a hole in the skull.  If  the tumor is not in a critical location, radioactive material can be injected to destroy the tumor.  The other benefit is that this instrument can be used to aspirate a tissue sample for biopsy or  medical analysis.

The versatility of this new Vacuum Rotary Dissector offers an unlimited variety of new applications in Neurosurgery as well as numerous other surgical and research procedures.
